North Texas women’s golf closed out the 2015-16 season with an 11th place finish this week at the Conference-USA Championship in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Mean Green finished its first round of the tournament in a tie for 9th place. But after a second round 326, North Texas would drop to 11th, extending their last-place skid to three consecutive tournaments.
Junior Eji Kwon and sophomore Nyca Khaw led North Texas, both finishing tied for 39th place.
Kwon started with a first round 75 moving into a tie for 11th place, but after a rough second round 88, the team leader fell back to the mid-40’s. She finished strong with another three-over 75 to close out her junior campaign.
Khaw also started out strong and tied for 17th place after a first round 76, but dropped back to 39th place after consecutive rounds in the low 80’s.
Freshman Samantha Huang finished in a tie for 41st place after bookending her second round 76 with a first round 80 and a final round 83.
Sophomore Devin Edwards struggled in her initial rounds but closed out her sophomore season on a high note with a final round 77 to finish tied for 46th place. Freshman Kalli Jennings followed suit, also shooting a final round 77 to finish tied for 48th.
The Mean Green will enter 2016-17 with a more experienced squad, losing only senior Laura DeLeonardis to graduation.
