Young named Sun Belt Player of the Week
After helping the UNT soccer team win its fifth and sixth straight games this weekend, sophomore forward Michelle Young was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Young scored three goals, including the game winner against Florida International on Friday night, and added two assists while UNT defeated FIU and FAU at home.
“I was just trying to work as hard as I can, give one hundred percent and do whatever I can do to help this team win,” Young said. “When I step off the field I make sure to know I gave it my all.”
Leading the Mean Green with 21 points off eight goals and five assists, Young has scored or assisted in each contest during UNT’s six game winning streak.
The sophomore played a role in both goals scored against FIU, assisting on Kelsey Hodges’ strike in the 21st minute and scoring the game winner in the 76th.
Sunday’s game against FAU saw no drop off from Young, who scored twice and added an assist in UNT’s dominant 5-0 victory over the Owls.
The Mean Green heads on the road to play Arkansas Little Rock on Thursday at 7 p.m. and hosts its final home game against Arkansas State at 1 p.m..
